Informationists on the Move!

May 29, 2011

There’s been lots of good news about embedded librarianship lately. I’m combining 2 news items especially about informationists (embedded librarians in the health sciences)  into one in this  post, and I’ll have other news later…

About a month ago, I learned of a new Medical Library Association Special Interest Group for Informationists. Co-conveners are Pam Sieving and Mary Ryan of the National Institutes of Health, and the group has put up a website at  . I understand there was also a kickoff meeting at the MLA annual conference in Minneapolis earlier this month.

Last week, Karen Davies, Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, announced a survey of Informationists, Clinical Medical Librarians, and Information Specialists in Context (ISICs). To take the survey, go to  , or if you have questions you can contact Karen at [email protected] or by telephone at 414-229-3881.

I’m excited about both these developments contributing to our knowledge and the spread of good practices in embedding librarians in health sciences organizations and others as well.
